Tonia Makary Qualifies for the Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii
Tonia Makary has officially qualified for the prestigious Ironman World Championship in Kona, Hawaii, taking place on October 11, 2025.
Her triathlon journey began in 2020 following knee surgery. Determined to come back stronger, she started training with coach Joao Arteche in May of that year, setting her sights on the ultimate goal: Kona.
On March 30, 2025, Tonia competed in Ironman South Africa in Port Elizabeth—her second full-distance Ironman (3.8km swim, 180km bike, 42.2km run)—and earned her spot on the start line in Kona.
